Story: "My Secret Friends"
It is the story of summers. There was a little girl named Rochi. She was an 8 years old child who was unable to walk because her one leg was fractured and need stretchers to walk on. She had no friends as nobody wants to be her friend due to her disability.
One day she saw some children playing hide and seek in the garden near the beach. She went to them and asked them to let her join in their game. But they behaved rudely to her and mocked her disability.
They said that she could not play with them as she could not walk properly and will disturb them in their play. She got hurt on listening to this, she moved back with some tears in her eyes, walked away from them. She went to the shore and sat down on the sand, started gazing at the seawater.
She was talking to herself, “Why, why should I not play with them? What is my mistake? God, why you made me like this. Please make me well otherwise I will not talk to you.” She was murmuring, when she saw a shell near her feet came floating with the waves. She took it in her hand and looked at it for a while. It was beautiful, then she saw some other shells lying on the sand. She picked them all and went near the rocks. She put them there and started talking to them.
She said with a big smile, “Hello dear shells, will you be my friend? I am alone. Nobody wants to befriend me, so now you all will be my friends and I will call you my secret friends." She murmured to them. She had a lot of things to talk about but no friend to be with, so she began to talk to them. She was too innocent.
Slowly time passed away and the sun sat down. When she looked at the sky, she said, “Oh no, friends look the sun is setting down, my mother will be waiting for me, so I will go now but will meet you tomorrow here in the same place. Please, wait for me, ok.” Then she hides them all below the rock and came to her home back.
She was very happy as now she also had friends. When she came back, her mother asked her, “Rochi, where had you gone, child? Do you know that I am waiting for you for a long time?” She said, “Sorry mamma", and she jumped with a big smile and said, "I want to tell you something.”
Mother asked while pulling her nose, “What?” Rochi smiled and said, “Mamma, today I made friends. They all are very good and cute. Do you know, I talked to them for a long time and they all listened to me continuously till the end, and they didn’t even stop me? They are very cute.”
Mother was happy on listening to that. She lifted her and sat her down on the table. She said, “Really, well-done my child. I am very happy for you. See, I said to you that one day you will also make friends, but you were worried in vain." She replied, “Yes, you are right mamma.”
Her mother was cooking food and Rochi was sitting near her at the table. Then mother again asked, “Ok, but what are their names? Tell me.” She confused, said to herself, “Oh, I forgot to name them." Then she said to her mother, "I will tell you tomorrow mamma.” Mother laughed and said, “Ok!”
The next day she reached them and named them. She said, “Friends, do you know that tomorrow my mamma was asking about your names but I was unable to tell her as I did not name you. But today I will name you all. So I can tell mamma.” Then she named them all. She was happy with all that.
In the evening, when she returned, she rushed to her mother and sat down in her lap, said, “Mamma, I have six friends. Do you want to know what their names are?” Her mother replied, “Yes Rochi, I want to know.” She smiled and said, “Listen, their names are Pinkie, Sweetie, Nilu, Rosy, Bhora, and Golu.” She replied, “Wow, the names are very cute, but who are they you didn’t introduce me to them.” Rochi said, “Really mamma, you want to meet them. Ok, mamma meet me tomorrow at the beach in the afternoon. I will show you, ok.” Mother smiled and said, “Will show me. Ok.”
The next day, when Rochi was on the beach her mother came. She was calling her loudly, “Rochi, Rochi, where are you?” Rochi was playing near rocks when she heard her. On listening to her she immediately rushed to her and said, “Mamma, come I will meet you to my friends.”
Then she took her near the rock, pointed her fingers towards the ground, said, “Look, mamma, they are my friends.” On seeing the shells lying on the ground her mother was amazed, she said slowly, “Rochi they are stones.” Rochi replied, “Yes mamma, nobody wanted to play with me, but then I found these shells. They are very nice. They play with me, and they listen to me without saying anything. They are my friends. Oh sorry! secret friends. Please don’t tell anybody about them, ok.” Listening to her, her mother was surprised, her eyes turned wet. She looked at her sweet, innocent child, She sat down and hugged her.
Mother was sad because the children don't want to befriend her due to her disability. She was disappointed with the world's nature. She was surprised with her daughter’s friends and her innocent sense, how could she made these shells her friend despite knowing the fact that they are rocks and nothing else.
“The happiness doesn’t lie only in the human bonds, it can be found in anything where we find our heart, where we find ourselves open, where we find happiness and joy. Sometimes things prove better than humans as they don't judge and never hurt anybody.”-ManKum
