Story: "The Tale Of A Tower Bird"
“Blue sky, open grasslands, cool breeze, and the sunshine, it all was so pleasant. I remember", said the dunnock bird to her three small chicks sitting in her nest on the tower. “But there is nothing like that, mom”, said one of them.
She replied, “Humans, sometimes they are so good that it looks wrong blame them but generally they are the biggest enemy of all the living and non-living on the earth having no mercy. The whole world is decorated by man after God, but he is destroying this beautiful gift by his deeds. He has changed all the ecosystems present.” “What happened here, mom?”, asked a chick.
“Many years before when I was of your age, I remember this place was like heaven on earth. It was so beautiful and clean, one of the loveliest places on the earth. It was a huge big forest with a life of about too many creatures with different categories and species. Look there, that small stream. Once a decade before it was a beautiful, clean and clear river. The whole forest life was blessed in its refuge", she paused for a while.
She continued, "We were a big family. Each creature had a role, had its importance. There was a great bonding of love and care among each creature. Trees, plants, and grass, all were the soul of the forest. There were too many trees at that time. The trees that you are seeing today, 100 times much more than this, and let me tell you that my nest was located on the tallest and the largest tree of the forest." She turned a little sad.
"It was a huge, big tree, which was the home of about 1500 birds with some 50 different species. The forest was a big home for lots of beings that you will unable to count on fingers. There was a relaxed peace. The air was pure and clean, and you could even feel it. It was not like today’s where you find dirt, smell, and impurity all over. Now it all turned only as of the memory of the past and nothing else”, and she turned silent for a while.
“Then what mom, how it changed?”, asked one.
“Human, he is the creator, he is the destroyer. But he is a big fool who knows all the results and circumstances in the future for his today’s deeds but still doing what is not right for him and the earth. Humans were also a part of this forest but they never interfered with nature so badly. Yes, they cut down trees, but to a limit. But after some time population began to increase and they started cutting more trees for their shelter".
"A few, then a more few, and then slowly-slowly they began to destroy the forest. After some time big machines and vehicles were started to come and began to destroy our homes. Many hurt and many were killed, for their needs they made us all turned homeless. Construction started, buildings began to build, trees were cut down too fast for more space. With time forest began to turn into a big town", she said with a heavy tone.
"Big buildings, industries, and towers began to build. Everything was changing except our tree, but we all had a fear lest of losing our home. In all this, my mother taught me to fly, so that I can protect myself in the future if any situation occurs, and she was right, a day came, when they targeted our home, and one day it was fallen on the ground."
"At that time I was in my nest, and as soon as my mother felt the inclination of the tree, she immediately instructed me to flew away and said that she will come after me with my siblings. I flew away into the sky and then I saw the tree was fallen with a jerk. I waited for her for a long time, but she didn’t come. In the night, when all was over, I went to it", and she turned silent.
After a short while, she continued, "I looked at the destruction caused by them. Many birds turned homeless, I was also one of them. Many were killed, the nests were destroyed and all eggs in them were broken away. I reached to the to my nest where I find my mother with my two other siblings, dead."
"I looked at them, lost them all in a single moment. Everything was destroyed. I sat down near my mother and began to cry. A friend of mine came and said that everything was destroyed, they destroyed our home, our family, our world, only a few are left. She asked me to join them as there was left nothing and we need to search for another home. I agreed to her and we left for some other place for shelter.” Her eyes filled with tears.
“Why mom? Why humans did this? Why he took away your home from you?”, asked one. Another one asked, “Then where did you go?”. “Nowhere, I survived somedays in the sky, at small trees wandering. All were separated here and there, many birds left the place and went to other cities and places. I didn’t want to go away as this was my home. I struggled for several months roaming here and there for home, then I found a shelter under a roof. I stayed there for 2-3 years. In all that, they started the construction of this big tower in the place of that tree. I was seeing the construction of the tower in front of my eyes, and one day it was completed. Here I made a small family of mine under the roof, but….”, she stopped.
“But?”, said one. “But then one day, the house owner threw away my nest and it destroyed with the eggs in it. I cried and then I looked at this tower. The huge and tall tower, I decided that I will make my home there because no one will ever touch my nest here and then I flew towards it. I build my nest again, again a new home. I used to see the changes near me regularly from here. I was sad about seeing this all. I found that there were only a few left like me, this realized me the distinctness of ours and other livings. Sometimes I feel happy when I see the rising sun, it gives me hope to believe that one day nature will take its revenge too because whatever human is doing is not right. I don’t know that how much will I or you all will survive because now this poisonous environment is the biggest enemy of life. I don’t know when it will affect us, but a day will arrive when this turn too bad”, and she cleared her face.
Then her baby birds came close to her and hugged her. They said, “Don’t worry mom, we all will always stay together with each other in every problem.” She hugged them all and then move towards the tower's edge and said, “Come with me, you have to learn to fly, so that one day if you also need to protect yourself, you could.”
And then she began to teach them to fly and then they all flew away in the open sky.
"Nature is a refuge for all, humans are only its refugees."-ManKum
I wish if a human could feel the grief of theirs, then maybe it would be good enough because then maybe he would have pity on them and feel guilty for his deeds.
